Got Craft?

Posted by in Random - December 6, 2011 // 4 Comments

This was my first year checking out the Got Craft? fair and I’m very glad because it was amazing. I kept telling people “I’m going to a craft fair” and I would get blank stares of “Why?” since of course people were automatically thinking of those tacky Christmas fairs you see in school gymnasiums full of grandmothers and their quilts. So I learned quickly to describe it as “Think Etsy quality products in one room.” Not only was it nice to see products in person, but it was so nice to meet the people in person behind these companies. I’m still in awe about how fantastic our artist community is. I walked out the doors with a huge grin on my face and feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Thank you Lotus Events for making this happen.

Funny enough I had met Victoria and Dave, while I was in Victoria in September, they were doing another “craft fair” (it was a Steampunk show at Craigdarroch Castle – I went to see the castle). These two are super vibrant and I love the thought, creativity and quality that goes into their designs. I’ve been looking for awhile for a journal that was refillable (I have a thing about ruining nice stationary with my ugly handwriting) and this piece by Divina Denuevo fit the bill. The antique key comes from a warehouse in the 1800′s and the leather with it’s scuffs and dents, make me feel like I’m back in the 17th century as a writer.

This was the first item I bought from the fair, K told me I couldn’t let the opportunity to buy a tea towel in my branding colours with a stag/deer/reindeer on it. Heather Mulholland Photography’s branding includes a stag and I love art with stag/deer on them lol The fact this was a tea towel was perfect! Miranda and her friend were honestly very sweet and it was nice to have someone I met in person take an interest in my blog (made me wish I had business cards though!)

Looking through the vendors Sadie Designs was the one I wanted to see the most. Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a huge rock/geologist fan. I keep collections of rocks in my closest. Even had a date carry back a large rock from a hike once .. yeah. But I find jewelery can be over the top when it comes to using pieces from the earth but Sarah does this such simplicity and elegance.

I am in LOVE with that journal! It’s so perfect :)

Those towels are so beautiful. I’m still debating if I want to use mine or just leave it hanging up for my friends to lust after.

I’m so glad you love your journal! Thanks so much for writing about us and that lovely picture! Dave is now eating his words about the scuffs on that journal, I told him it made it look much more rustic! It’s so funny that you mention you had been looking for a refillable journal because you didn’t want to ruin it – I don’t remember if I had told you when you bought it, but that’s the very reason I made it refillable in the first place! I have so many beautiful journals sitting on my bookshelf, empty, out of fear that I’ll make them ugly with my writing, or not writing something worthy of their pages :)

    Enjoy! and happy holidays!

  4. I have to say, I’m in love with that journal. I feel like I should be sitting on a port as a storm rolls in writing poetry with it. Hah, I’ll probably just make ‘to do’ lists instead. Thanks for sharing it… can’t wait to see what else the shop has.
